Hello SolidLine Media enhusiasts, my name is Dylan and I am one of the new summer interns. I am 22 years old and currently finishing up my final classes at Columbia College this summer. It’s been a marathon, but I am crawling to the finish line and my parents (and their wallets) couldn’t be happier. I’m just wrapping up my second week here at SolidLine and can honestly say I have no complaints (yet, plenty of blogs to come…). It’s been a great experience thus far and I’m learning a lot and having fun in the process.
Having never had an internship before, I based my expectations coming from stories I had heard from others– telling of summers spent stocking fridges with yogurt and diet coke. Now, I enjoy yogurt as much as the next guy, but I wasn’t sure how honing my fridge-stocking skills would help me down the road. But after my first week here I realized my expectations couldn’t have been more wrong. Being an intern at SolidLine is like being a part of the team. Besides your typical intern tasks, which are to be expected, I was given pretty important jobs that made me feel like I was being utilized for more than running errands and doing busy work. I felt I could truly learn and benefit from my summer here.
One of the first shoots I was involved with was a promo for the Academy of General Dentistry. The concept was to show how great musicians stay sharp by praticing– and the same goes for dentists by furthering their education. So we had a group of musicians in the studio where we shot them playing their instruments to an original song they had wrote for the promo. I had the privilege of being able to shadow our resident DP, Ed, as well as have the distinct honor of siting just out of frame and taking the stand-up-base player’s bow. That pale leg, just below the camera, that’s me! I also got to shoot some behind the scenes footage for a video that will be on the SolidLine website. So as you can tell, some pretty exciting stuff has been happening around the SolidLine office recently– and I can’t wait to see what’s to come.
