My name is Joe Klontz, SolidLine Media’s newest Video Production Intern for Summer 2013.  I will be blogging periodically throughout my time here at SolidLine Media, as I embark on multiple production shoots that are going on around the country!

Let me begin by thanking SolidLine Media for the amazing opportunities to travel, work and learn with them and the production squad thus far.  I have been here for less than a month, and have already traveled thousands of miles with the crew!

There have been a lot of places we have gone in the last three weeks.  My first day on the internship, I flew out to Miami, Florida with production members Ed Boe and Greg Vass.  We hailed into a storm right as we got to Miami, but safely made it to the shoot where we were collecting footage for the DHL THERMONET project.  We worked along side an array of individuals at DHL, gaining access to their shipping and storage facilities as well as their airport gate.  I had a great time assisting with the shoot, learning how to set up the slider equipment and watching how our team interacts with the client.  I would say Miami was a great way to start the summer!

After more than 48 hours, we were back in Chicago as I prepared for the next big shoot at O’Hare Airport.  I traveled with SolidLine Media Producer Kevin Wright and Director of Photography Ed Boe for the Ricondo Safety project at O’Hare Airport. We shot for a full week, waking up before sunrise on most days and not getting back until late at night on others, but it was all worth it to be allowed to film mere yards away from the impressive aircraft.  The long hours were well worth the experience, as we gained access to shoot on taxiways, runways and in a control tower. The production experience at O’Hare was unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of before, and it was an experience of a lifetime.

Overall the last three weeks have been incredibly fun and challenging, and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the following weeks to come!  Next stop, Nashville Tennessee!
