We’re currently working on a new video for the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management, who is celebrating their 50th year of conferences. AHRMM wanted to tell this year’s conference audience everything the group was up to, and celebrate its past at the same time.
And it needed to be fun..

So, we came up with a concept that would transport the audience through 50 years of pop culture, ending up 50 years into the future, imagining what the healthcare industry would look like in 2062. To accomplish this, the SolidLine Art Department had to create 3D models in the style of some iconic scenes in pop culture – from “The Flintstones” and 70’s shag carpet, to “Back To The Future” and “The Jetsons.”

The video is still in production, but we thought we’d share some still-frames and ask Art Director Mike Petrik what it was like to work on them.
Bedrock – “The Flintstones”

ARHMM
From the…town of Bedrock….

Mike Petrik: “This one was fun to try to match the look of a 50 year-old cartoon in 3D.  I’d say we did a pretty good job.  Also, the sky is never blue in Bedrock.  Always this weird salmon color.”
“The Incredible Hulk”

Hulk SMASH
Hulk SMASH….

MP: “The fun part in this one was the dynamic smashing of the bricks.  Justin Younger did a great job of modeling and lighting this one to look like a dingy old alley.”
The 1970’s

Shaggy
Shaggy….

MP: “I modeled a basement that I would want to have.  It’s crazy how much it would cost me to put together all of this old stereo equipment in working order.  So pretending in 3D is the next best thing.”
Hill Valley – “Back To The Future”

1.21 Gigawatts!

MP: “I got paid to remake a scene from Back to the Future.  I wish we could remake the whole movie.”
90’s Computer Scene

Everyboooooooody yeaaaaah
Everyboooooooody yeaaaaah…..

MP: “Justin modeled an iMac, a computer I remember everyone in college had.  I also remember the Backstreet Boys.  Glad both things are gone.”
Orbit City – “The Jetsons”

Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

MP: “Justin and Adam modeled and lit this scene for me.  They did a great job matching the cartoony look of the show, but making it more of a modern 3D cartoon.”
AHRMM’s “50/50” video will premiere in the next few weeks. We’ll be sure to share it with you when it’s completed!
