To kick off our new “Meet The SLM Crew” series, we’re starting with the man responsible for getting so many of our visuals on the screen. Ed Boe is our Director of Photography.

Where are you from?

I grew up in the northwest Chicago suburb of Palatine.  That delightful little burg was my home until I moved to Chicago.

When did you first realize you had a thing for media production?

I’ve loved movies since as early as I can remember, but I really got interested in what it took to make them when I got my first camera – a Sony Handycam camcorder. I got a job at the Ridge Cinemas and Town & Country Cinemas.  Both owned by Cineplex Odeon, both closed now.  I did everything from Concessions, to Usher, to Box Office, and for a little bit I was Assistant Manager, and for an even smaller time Acting Manager. My fellow employees and I would often make our own movies.

How do you go about visualizing a shot, especially when you get on set?

When thinking about shots I usually like to walk around the area we’re using, and if at all possible I like to see what the action we’re capturing looks like.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

When not working I’m usually doing still photography, usually of the macro or wildlife variety. When I’m not doing that I am usually hanging out with my fiancée cooking, watching movies, or building forts for our cats.

Being a movie fan, what was the last great movie you saw?

The last great movie I saw was either Moonrise Kingdom, or The Long Kiss Goodnight depending on whether you count re-watching a movie.

If you could only order lunch from one spot for the rest of your days, what would it be?

For lunch it’s a toss up, I’d either go with anything from Hot Doug’s or steak sandwiches from Mexique…or maybe Korean fried chicken from Crisp.  Or possibly Mediterranean crepes from Icozium.  Maybe it’s too difficult to choose only one.

And finally, if SolidLine Media is the Brady Bunch, which character are you and why?

I don’t remember the Brady Bunch all that much, just that all the characters were super annoying. Now if we’re talking about Arrested Development, I’d definitely be Gob Bluth cause of my penchant or magic!
