This summer has flown by. It seems like yesterday I was writing my first blog and packing up my first light kit, but now I am here writing about my last trip as a SolidLine Intern. Appropriately enough, we headed out to Pennsylvania for the third time. After a summer of heading out East non-stop, we were heading there one last time, well with me on board that is.

Greg, Ed, Justin (an old SolidLine Intern), and I loaded into the truck on Sunday afternoon and hit the road. Since Michael had to stay back in Chicago and edit all week, Justin came with to help out. This not only meant we had someone new to hang out with, it also meant I got Michael’s bunk on the truck! After sleeping on the couch all summer it was a dream come true have some space all to myself. I had a great night sleep.
The next day we got to Hershey, Pennsylvania (the chocolate capital of the world), around two in the afternoon. We headed over to a campsite in the town and parked there for the night. The park was really nice and we were able to get our fill of swimming, playing horseshoes (it’s a lot harder than it looks), and of course, eating candy. That night we made some smores by the fire and were able to hang out and relax.
In the morning we got up and drove about ten minutes over to the Veteran’s hospital we were shooting at. Once we were on the property we were given a police escort that led us to our parking spot. We loaded into the really nice facilities and started filming some interviews. We interviewed everyone from veterans themselves to the head of the entire hospital. We got a lot of great stories and we were able to pick up some really great b-roll as well.
That night we headed back to the Hersey campgrounds. We made it in time to hit the pool for a while and hang out around the fire. The first night Justin and I took about an hour to get the fire going, so the second night Greg decided to do it himself and he got it going in about five minutes. Clearly I’m not an outdoorsman.
The next day we filmed some more interviews at the hospital before heading back out onto the road home. We made it back to the city by three in the afternoon the following day and got ready for a shoot at UIC. We filmed an intro with Tim and Dave for the Transparent Health video. It was fitting that my last shoot as an intern was at the same place, and with the same people, as my first shoot three and half months before.
This isn’t the end of my intern blog. Next week I am going to post a retrospective video and blog, but I do have to say that my last trip was a lot of fun. We got a lot of great footage and we had a good time hanging out.
