WHAT: It appears that the future of highways is coming to the Netherlands in mid-2013. From the description on the YouTube video posted by NMA News Direct:
Two companies, Studio Roosegaarde and Heijmans Infrastructure, came up with the highway, which includes: glow-in-the-dark road markings painted with photo-luminescent paint which are charged during the day and light up during the night; temperature-responsive paint which indicates slippery roads when temperatures fall below zero; and interactive lights along the highway that light up as cars approach.
STATS: Since being posted in late December, the animated rendering of the glow-in-the-dark highway has been viewed 172,000 times.
WHY WE LOVE IT: How cool does this look? As tech in cars continues to evolve, designers are also looking to make sure the roadways improve with it. Check out the video below and read more details about the project in this Wired article.
